Ethical Property have been an accredited Living Wage Employer since 2013, something that sadly feels even more important now than it did back then. With so many people being affected by the cost-of-living crisis this year, paying the real living wage can make a difference. It is estimated that the UK has 4.8 million workers earning below the real living wage, low-paid workers and their families are facing even more hardship as they face rising bills, so to mark the real Living Wage Week 2022, we want to take the time to encourage more employers to become an accredited Living Wage Employer and to provide staff with security and a long-term commitment to a wage that always meets the cost of living every year.
The real Living Wage is independently calculated based on what employees and their families need to live. It’s higher than the government’s minimum wage, rebranded as the National Living Wage for over 23s. Employers like Ethical Property, voluntarily choose to pay it – so that we can make real change happen in peoples’ lives right now. A wage that meets everyday needs – like the weekly shop, or a surprise trip to the dentist. It applies to all workers over 18 - recognising that young people have the same living costs as everyone else.
The real Living Wage is the only UK wage rate that is voluntarily paid by over 11,000 UK businesses who believe their staff deserve a wage which meets everyday needs - like the weekly shop, or a surprise trip to the dentist. The movement has lifted almost 400,000 people out of in-work poverty. With over 11,000 accredited Living Wage Employers. Find out how your organisation can join the movement here.
